Why I Bet On ME!

When it comes to running a successful service provider-based business, I definitely know a thing or two, and maybe even 3.

Starting a successful yet profitable business can be tough - Believe me, I’ve been there:
I have a nice car, nice house, I love to travel, and I have a bit of an expensive lifestyle now, but trust me, it was NOT long ago when my credit card debt was more than about 2 to 3 years worth of rent here in Los Angeles. My father taught me the value of a dollar, don't get me wrong. But I like nice things. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This version of Marisa no longer has her Dad on her head (RIP), but has a heavier load to carry. But to be clear, this version is Marisa is clear on her wants, needs, and desires in life as well.

I started Your Star Power Solutions as an answer to an incident at a previous employer that left me vulnerable. Although I could have sued them and won for wrongful termination, it was the process and stress of it all that I didn’t want to go through. I already had high blood pressure from having my first child, and I didn’t need the stress on top of other stressors in my personal life with the recent departure of my Dad and the legal and financial matters that came along with it. I was so bothered by the situation that whenever I would see an email from them or think about the situation, I would have heart palpitations and I could feel my blood pressure rising. I was seriously hurt and bothered. I felt betrayed.

But long story short. I was left in a vulnerable place with no job, a new husband, and a new baby. This was new for me. It was a struggle, and most like everyone, I didn’t want to struggle. But not like everyone, baby I’m NOT GOING to struggle. It was then that I decided that I would not put myself in a position for someone to dictate my ability to care for myself or my kids again.

I wanted something that I could also see my kids grow up and actually raise them. Not leaving the house at 6:30 am

or 7 am just to get to work on time, and not getting home until almost 6:30 pm to 7pm, still having to cook, still having to help with homework, be a mom, be a wife, clean the house... yoooo... who wants to do all that and get back up at 5am to do it all again, 5 days a week.

So I started my own company, well I started to take running my own business seriously. Taking the knowledge and experience I’ve gained from working at federal government agencies, Internationally known non-profits, medical concept startups that later sold their business for 8 figures, to widely known mental health agencies, and more. I took all that knowledge and experience, along with my educational learning, and started my own thing, and I BET ON ME!

I got another 9 to 5 after this last one, but I used it to finance my business startup for myself. After two and half years (Longer because I had another baby while there. Hey, Jada needed a playmate!!) I told got I had a 2-year plan during my last employment. God answered back and said I had a 2-week plan.
